Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Lighting..o-O

Hello everyone.

This is my recent 3d still. Please give me your suggestion on lighting. Want to create a dramatic mood.
Whatever you feel.

Thanks

ooh, that skin shader looks really weird.
on my monitor, this is too dark. the scatter on the skin makes the figure stand out as if they are lit in different scenes.

The skin shader looks too waxy. Your scale conversion setting is off. Try fiddling with it a bit. I also don't think you have shadows turned on. Either that, or the SSS is destroying your shadows, which completely eliminates the dramatic mood you're going for.

Also, it would be nice to put in a spec map as well to break up the uniform highlights. If you want us to take a look at the lighting, it would be nice to see the scene with a ~60% gray matte material assigned.

guyz i didn't start the texturing yet i just put the materials and was going for lighting.
and please tell me how scale conversion works i am working with SSS first time.
I want to achieve the lighting look. and for shadows i am using mental ray override shadow settings. i also think there is no shadows in the scene...

Next time i will post a gray version

????????????

You need to be more patient. Some of us are working professionals, and free time is sparse.

My area of expertise isn't in lighting, so I'm not much help. Someone will be by to help you out thought.

yeah post up the grey render like this if you want comments on the lighting. it can look quite nice with spec, bump and disp maps. if you want comments on the shading then i would say the textures still need work and so do the shaders.

That's looking better; I think there could be more fill in the deep shadows, I can't see any tonal info on the right arm.
