good source for list of Index of Refractions

good source for list of Index of Refractions

Hey All,

I've been doing google searches for a bit and cannot find a good source of IORs. The ones that I am specificially am looking for are Merlot wines or Cabs. Either one is fine.

Anyone have a clue of those IORs or a great site for that?

It would be safe to assume that the IOR would be extremely close to that of water, as wine is mostly water (81%).

The full break-down of a typical wine is 81% water, 12% alcohol, 7% other. (https://www.benefits-of-resveratrol.c...n-of-wine.html)

Since water's IOR is 1.33801, and ethanol's (alcohol) IOR is 1.36652, and that a 30% sugar water solution's IOR is 1.38 (we will assume that this makes up the entire other 7%), we can easily calculate an approximation of wine.

IOR_wine ~= (1.33801 * 0.81) + (1.36652 * 0.12) + (1.38 * 0.07) = 1.3443705

I also came across this site with a quick Google search. See Table 5. https://web2.slc.qc.ca/jmc/w05/Wine/results.htm. As you can see, the values are extremely close to that of water. However, be aware that these values were obtained by students, and are therefore not as rigorous as the tests below.

There are a lot of IOR databases out there. I just came across this one with over 1000 material samples, which I used in conjunction with some other sites to come up with this estimate: https://refractiveindex.info/
