This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.
Here is my first render. I am looking for advice and critique on how to make it better, especially on the shading, lighting, and rendering aspects. I am planning on adding a couch and a picture on the wall on the right side so it doesnt look so empty. this was completely inspired by Oasim from pixelophy.com, he gave me the idea, many techniques, and advice for it.
Hope you like it!
noted issues:
-carpet needs more texture
-too much shadow on teddy's face
You're off to a good start. A few things jumped out at me. The curtains' folds are really uniformed and flat and I find myself staring but that's the modeling department. The materials seem kind of ambiguous, the curtains, teddybear and gifts stand out in this respect, they all seem very matte and the curtain is 100% blocking the light. Lighting wise, it could use some shadow softening and some more bounce light. Also I noticed that some parts of the tree and some ornaments are a tiny bit overexposed. What is your lighting setup?
Ok so ill try to fix those things anf post an updated render in a bit... And i have a vraysphere for the moonlight, a lightdome for the sky lighting, and a bunch of small lightspheres for the christmas tree lights... I ma very new to vray so how do you make these materials less matte? And what about shaodow softening a light bounce? Is that in the render settings?
Thanks!
Why do you like vary? I've been interested in trying it. I know mental ray a renderman, so I think it will be pretty straight forward. Surely the materials are similar.
