ies light profiles

Been going through some tutorials on how to create ies lights in maya but I cant seem to get it right I follow everything to the letter but I get no hint of even a light shape whilst using physical sun and sky. Checked through the documentation but it was of little help. Can anyone point me in the direction of a tutorial.

IES does not create a visible glow, but controls how the light falls onto surfaces. You need to use a material for what you want.
