two panels side by side - w/ different wireframe smoothness settings?

07102012

In Maya 2011 I am using two panels side by side.
What I want to do is display left panel with (keystroke 1) display wireframe smoothness
Right panel I want (keystroke 3) display wireframe smoothness

I have tried creating a second perspective camera - but toggling through display settings using shortcuts -1,2,3 - same results show in both windows/panels?

My goal here is to simply see a low res and high res of my model at same time - this should make modeling easier.

thanks

So you are saying the non-preview smoothed poly surface (1-key) renders the same as the preview smoothed surface (3-key)?

Can you take a screen shot?

Because if they are rendering the same then something is odd. You may need to reset your preference settings.

I think the request was for a way to display a model with different smoothing in different viewports.

I don't think that's possible with the 1-3 keys because it applies to the geometry itself and not the viewports. Apart from making a copy of the mesh, I don't see that happening.

ah ic ty gen I could not make sense of what he was saying.

yeah gen is correct you cannot display the same geo with different smoothing. You can dup the geo though and then put different smoothing on each copy.

ok, thanks

GecT - your comment is correct, that is what I was trying.

Now I realize I can dupe the geo (poly, in this case) but that does not give me an interactive update on main geo in question.

I thank all for quick and informative replies.

I could be totally off the ball here but how about using a subdiv proxy?

I was under the impression you had to be modeling in subD's.

I am building a head in Poly's

I will check this out though - thanks
