Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Bat update

Hi all,
I've had a fair bit of help/comments etc, members here incl: DaveRave and ctbram.

Anyway, here's some images of progress so far. Still got the steering to sort out and the arm covers etc, then wires and details... oh dear - then shading and texturing.

This is my first model attempt.

C&C welcome, but please be gentle, I've only been going for 3-4 weeks!

hey man, looks like a good start for your first model.
i haven't done much modeling recently, but for me its strange to have a million polys on the wheels and only a few elsewhere.

Thankyou. Um, for the wheels, these were done with a plane for the tred and re-shaped etc and then duplicated alot! and used a bend. Hmm, I see what your saying yeah. Still loads to do. But glad you didn't say it was TOO BAD! haha.

Looking good Nathan but you have a few ngons (polygon with more then 4 sides) that should be cleaned up. It looks like you have use booleans to create the disc brakes, booleans are great but you still need to clean up the mesh after using them, if you need any help cleaning them just post and we will help...............dave

Hi all.
Just another update. This is taking me ages. I've just learnt how to use M'Ray for renders, so thought I'd post one. Just working on the arm protector now user added image

I love the Batpod, its one of the coolest and weirdest looking vehicles about, looks like you are enjoying making it too. Whats going on with the render...its very blocky

I've only added a shader to the handle. Hmmm. Maybe lack of graphics card on laptop. Will keep you guys up to date. You've really helped user added image ... fingers crossed on this. Everyday brings a new issue/problem/research... haha

It's a gif, that's probably why the compression is funky. Posting jpgs will probably give a better image.

It looks fantastic man!

It looks as though you're going for an ambient occlusion render? I have a nice pre-set shader for that. If you'd like it I'll throw it your way. Drop and drag.

Blimey, thankyou for your kind words guys. This is my first project .. well, first time making anything complicated really. Tried to do the arms part this part week, still needs detail though.

Not sure what you meant by the render. I want it eventually to look real on my drive at home! user added image
