I am very new to maya and was trying to find the best way to learn how to do more traditional 2d looking animating with maya, as I couldn't find any lessons on it.
thanks!

Do you mean like how south park is made in maya? Or actual frame by frame 2D animation. Cause I think that's best done in another program.

Well those are quite different, I believe. South park is actually mostly 2D. There's a series of youtube vids on rigging something like that: Maya South Park Rig - Part 1 - YouTube
Triplets of Belleville I think uses some 3D with toon shaders. Do some searching on toon shaders or cel shading in maya. Not sure about the simpsons, but I think that's the same (toon shading).

The Simpsons uses Toon Boom Animation, I think Triplets of Belleville do as well. Check out the wiki with the filmography here, and the tour video here. It looks incredibly funny and user friendly, I just got stuck on their site watching videos for an hour user added image

I found a few videos on the 2d shader in maya and using the outliner. seems to work, BUT there seems to be problems when you rotate thing with the outliner, as you get funky and bad and dirty edges at times. I would think there must be a setting to help this out....
