Help! Creating a special roof!

Hi all,

I don't really know hot to verbalize my needs and I don't really know how to search for that.

I want to build a special roof which consist of a half cylinder that is scaled down a bit (see attached picture). Scaling the object my subdivision cap (the inner edge) will be also squeezed. I need to have the same distance in the upper area as at the left or right area (a parallel edge??) in order to be able to build more or less the same roof as in picture two attached.
I have no clue how I could make it.... Need the help of your experience and professionalism user added image

Could you tell me how you would build up that roof?

I would use a flat plane, then a bend deformer and then extrude for thickness myself.

Why not just make a pair of cv curves and loft? You can convert the nurbs surface to a poly surface and extrude thickness.

I made a fast video howto to show not only how to create the arched roof using a nurbs curve and loft but how to create the more complex roof with the arches that are on the sides of the building in the image.

It's not an exact match to the image but should demo all the concepts needed to complete a good model of the structure and hopefully demonstrates a couple useful work flows and tools like - ep curves, lofts, booleans, and the lattice deformer.
