Nurbs extrude

Hi I'm extruding along a curve and would like to have a concistency at each span.

Can I scale my circles first then place them along the curve and somehow extrude.

or

After extruding Im trying to scale at each hull, but can't see any scale attributes for these components.

Does anyone know where these details would be?

I think you need to rebuid your curve to unform then do your extrude I could be wrong if I am Im sure ctbram will help...............dave

Ok, but what I mean is, when Im adjusting the width of the tube, Id like to have precise control.

If you are using a nurb circle you can scale that after the extrude not sure that that would be called pricise...............dave

Okay if I am understanding you. You want to create a tube along a path and at each section (where there is a hull which you can control by setting where the cv's are along the curve) you want to "precisely" control the diameter of the hull?

Unfortunately, all you can do in maya with hulls is scale them. Maya is not a CAD program it's a artsy fartsy watered down CAD program for drawing things by eye in 3D designed for artists.

Now, you can control the size of nurbs circles from their creation node and so you could attempt to place a series of circles along a path and then loft between them but you'll have to manually go back between the spans and adjust the flow of the tube.

Why does it need to be so precise that you cannot just scale the hulls by eye? Can you describe or show a screen shot of what you are trying to achieve?

After thinking about this there might be a way to get you kinda close.

Assume you start with a 1 unit radius circle extruded along a path.

Now if you select a hull and scale it by <.5,.5,.5> you'll have a circle at that point of approx 1/2 unit radius.

Likewise if you scale a hull by <2,2,2> you have a circle with a 2 unit radius.

You'll just have to compute the ratio relative to the initial circle at each hull.

Thanks fellas,

Yes ctbram I was trying to do as you say adjust at hulls. Just so there was concistency along my model.

But having played with it myself I think I'll break it into pieces and extrude the bits first, then attach surfaces afterwards.

That should solve it. But thank you for clearing that up.
