Scanning technology and the future of modeling !

https://rawscandata.com/

I started thinking modelers and sculpters will turn into operators in the near future. Or, another possibility the best modelers and sculpters will become pure artists. Will sculpting custom and personal models will be considered art ? Will, most of the sector will be unemployed, or salaries will drop? I am always getting confused thinking about this near future. What do you think ? How will the advancement in scanning and hardware technology effect human factor?

Holy crap those models are expensive. Check this one out instead: https://www.3dscanstore.com/

I develop 3d scanners at my University, and work with the data in production at work. While scanning real objects is fine, it will never get rid of the true artistry of sculpting. Just think; what would happen if you needed to create something that doesn't already exist?

Not to mention 3d scanners are expensive, complicated, take time to set up and calibrate, and are limited in terms of what they can scan. So no; artists are not in jeopardy.

Scanners aren't necessarily of the future either; I think Toy story and even earlier cg tests used scanned models instead of modeling from scratch.

True, in 1972, Ed Catmull (of Pixar fame) created what is believed to be the first cg-animated film. He used a digitized version of his left hand to create the animation.

^ Better than most of today's models and animations. Except for the finger bending the wrong way, but that could just be his hand :p
