Mini project: re-creating a fish from a dream.

I usually have lucid dreams. I am also a fish owner, so that kind of explains this dream.
In my dream, I saw a fish that looked similar to my black swordtails, but it also looked almost like a betta fish as well in shape.
The interesting thing about that fish was that its scales and fins changed color depending on how the light reflected off them.
So when I saw it, I thought "When I wake up, I should sketch it right away so I don't lose the idea"
And I did sketch it, but my camera was blurry so I had to edit it and emboss it a bit.

So now that I have the sketch, I can begin working on the model in Maya. The scales/fins will be a problem though. I will probably need to have various shaders that are visible only under light or something. What possibilities do I have to create a surface with different colors reflecting off it depending on angle of view while not using more than one light?
If I have to use that shader that can only be seen when facing the camera or a light, can someone explain how it can be done, please?

Look into using a sampler info node with facing ratio tied to a colored ramp. Do some googling for irridescent shading networks in maya.

The ramp doesn't seem to work exactly like I'd want it to. Here's how the color fade should go:

Whereas the ramp shader makes it look too artificial / the colors are too separated by a line.
