Beer glass scene creation
This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.

Manipulate World Space Scale

Hello, I've been using Maya for some time now with great success. I have an issue I haven't been able to solve for for a while and I'm hoping to get some outside assistance.
I would like to be able to rotate an object around an ellipse, but it must make multiple rotations. I know this can be done with a motion path that cycles, but the issue there is at the start and end of every rotation, the object speeds up/slows down. I also realize the speed up/slow down can be eliminated by changing the InTan and OutTan tpyes, but this isn't ideal either because what I really want is a smooth start at the beginning of the first rotation, then a constant speed through the rest of the rotations, and finally a smooth stop at the end of the final rotation.
This kind of motion is easily accomplished is you simply move the object's pivot point and rotate it through the angle equivalent to the desired number of rotations. Going into the graph editor allows you to add a smooth start/stop. The issue here the motion path is a circle, not an ellipse.
Nothing I do seems to work exactly right. One thought I have is to alter the entire world space coordinate system so that the y is only half of x and z. If I could do this, then I could rotate using the pivot point and it would appear to a viewer outside the Maya world space that the rotation was an ellipse because the y world values are halved. However, I can't find any way to alter the y world space in maya. I hope my issue makes sense and would be very appreciative of any suggestions the community might have. Thanks

Not sure this is what you want, I have created a helix curve that I used the bend deformer on to get the shape then I put a aim constraint on the cone to follow the little box around.............dave
