This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

Rigging separate parts?

One thing that has sort of baffled me for a while now is how game models attach thing such as clothes, armor, and other separate parts together with the main model onto a single rig. I've tried this myself, but it's never really worked and I don't get how all these separate elements move accordingly as one. That being said, rigging is perhaps my weakest aspect in Maya. Can anyone explain how this is done or direct me to a good tutorial that explains it?

If you mean like having like having an object following another for example a hat following the head all you have to do is select the hat and then Shift select the head joint and hit the p key to parent both objects. Hope this helps.

Really?! That's it?

I could've sworn I've tried that at least once before and it didn't work, but I'll give it another shot. Thanks!

If its like Hero Engine, you will have parts slots that will be tied to the character etc within the engine...painful stuff.

So lets say I have some clothing, in this case a leotard, on my model in Maya. I just parent it to the body to make it work with the rest of the skeleton and follow the body's form?
