I've got a big problem with the mia_car_paint shader.
I've modeled the exteriour design of a lamborghini murcielago, but the paint doesn't look realistic, and I don't know how to set it up for a realistic look.
First thing I noticed is that there isn't an environment for the material to reflect. The default void of Maya's 3D space isn't going to be too flattering
Second there seems to be a lot of 100% black swatches even the "lit Color", 100% any color(I'm looking at those red swatches too) isn't going to look very realistic. Also, the flakes won't show if the "Flake Weight" has a zero value.
Find a tutorial for the car paint shader, there's lots out there.
It'd be more helpful to you than someone explaining that shader to you on here.
But like what Gen said, for starters, you're gonna need something to reflect... 80% of what makes a shader look good is the lighting and the enviroment around it.
Watch lots and lots of Mental Ray and Rendering tutorials... then watch some more.
