Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Maya '.iam' Import Problem

When I try to import an Autodesk Inventor Assembly file (.iam) into Maya, Maya stops responding for about 15 minutes whilst the memory it is using increases on task manager, and then a Free Memory Exception is thrown and Maya closes. Also, Autodesk DirectConnect is enabled in Plug in manager so it shouldn't be that.

Adlm, which it references, is the Autodesk license manager; so it would seem that it's a licensing problem. Do you have Inventor licensed on your computer?

I've got Inventor 2013 Professional fully licensed on my computer and I've had it for just over a year now.

Can inventor export in another format?

I've tried most of the other formats, but when I import them, either Maya crashes or the file size ends up being really big, even after using cleanup utilities. A while ago I managed to import a '.iam' file into maya with few problems, but I can't get it working again.
