The film industry became aware of the uncanny valley, which is a paradox in animation that states that the more life-like a character gets the creepier it becomes to human observers, when Pixar created their short film Tin Toy in 1988. This film got them their first Academy Award and established computer animation as a serious medium.
A few attempts have been made a realistic humans since then, freaking out audiences (me included) around the world.

Also, out of curiosity, was there anyone else here who struggled with the characters in TinTin? I thought the sets looked beautiful but those characters really scared me. Must be tough to be a kid these days
