Fuzzy shadows

I'm trying to set up a 3-point studio lighting for my model and currently have one area light. I heard that increasing the shadow rays would smooth out the shadows but that seems to not be working for me...

How can I fix this?

When you say "fuzzy" I took it to mean that your shadows were soft and you wanted them to appear harder, in that case you could decrease the actual size of the area light because the bigger the area light, the softer the shadows. If your problem is about the grain in the shadows then check this out.
