Beer glass scene creation
This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.

I am not sure why you had to add the edges running into the top and bottom sections. You could control that curvature with the edges running around the middle.

But to be honest it would help to see what shape you are trying to model because it's hard to suggest anything from just the images you've posted.

I see lots of tri's and really long slim poly faces which are going to pinch and crease.

You should avoid long slender poly faces and narrow triangular faces on a curved surface.

Okay here you go. Sorry I got all blabby again and went on for 10 minutes for something that takes 2 minutes. It's uploading now so it might take a couple minutes before it's viewable.

Strangely enough when I try to extrude my holes inwards - it sharpens the shape into a more square looking hole.

I've deleted history and am on maya 2013..

Looks kind of like you have some laminar faces in there. Try mesh>cleanup... and check non-manifold, laminar faces, faces with zero area, and edges with zero length and see if that fixes things.

Ya, I don't know what happened there. but eventually got there.

here are two renders with default settings - physical Sun & sky with simple exposure, then with the photographic node.

If anyone knows how to get good results with the photographic - do share.
