Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Can't detach component after Smoothing

My issues is exactly as the title says. I smoothed a mesh I've been working on but now I want to separate the head. Normally its straightforward you simply select the edge of the face and select "detach component" then separate mesh. I ended up just duplicating the model and cutting the current head off but I would like to know why its not working like it did before smoothing?

Doesnt 'separate' work? rather than detach or extract?

It should work just as you described. I'd be curious to see some snap shots of you trying to detach an edge and separate mesh to see exactly what messages you're getting.

I just tested and confirmed it's working fine in Maya 2014. So we have to be missing some information about your model that is causing what you are seeing.
