Rendering tif, compressed aspect ratio

Whenever I render an image out as a .tif, it gets all squished and compressed on the file's preview icon and like on default image viewers. But if I open it in photoshop or upload the image somewhere, the aspect ratio is fine. I don't think I changed any settings, or did anything differently. I tried resetting preferences, tried testing out old scenes to make sure it wasn't just something new I did, but they still keep coming out strange. Any other file type, .png or .jpg or .exr for example, comes out fine. Any thoughts on why it's like this? Thanks!

Check your render settings that the pixel aspect ratio is 1. It could be that it got inadvertently changed. PS might be smart enough to account for that, while other image viewers won't. That might not be it, but it's worth checking.

i browse in Bridge - where my rendered tiffs look fine - so never noticed this before. Just checked via the windows thumbnails and they are squished - im maybe wrong but i wouldn't worry about it.

Yeah, I guess just certain viewers aren't reading the pixels correctly, since they turn out fine when I am editing them. Strange... thanks for the replies!
