Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

Place object on floor precisely

Hey everyone,

I couldn't find a topic about his.
How do you place an object on the floor?
For example: I create a Sphere. I can change "Translate Y" to 0 but this will make the core being placed on 0.
Calculating the height and dividing it by 2 seems unproductive for huge amounts of objects, there has to be a simple way, right?

I'm pretty sure this is a noob question but I couldn;t find any info on it.

One way is to vertex snap the pivot point to the bottom of the object (hold d and v and MMB click on a bottom vertex), then x snap the object to the grid (aka floor). This is a bit of a workaround and doesn't work for every situation.
In the Maya Bonus Tools, I believe there is a layout tool for dropping things to the floor.
In many cases, with complex objects, it's as simple and mundane as eyeballing it.
