Rendering File Types Are Frame Number

Hey all, today when I was rendering my first animation in Maya 2015 student version a very big problem happened..

The files are saving as whatever the frame number is..
What I mean is, I selected it to render as a .png file type but it is rendering in a file type that is the frame number..

So, frame 1 would be in file type "001" and frame 2 would be in file type "002" so on and so on..
If you're wondering what the animation is, it is just a basic rig moving.. and that's practically it..

The rendering seems fine in the script editor too..
Sorry if I seem dumb with this, I am new to Maya.

Any help?

Thanks

In the common tab of the render settings, under the "File Output" section, what's the "frame/animation ext" set to?
