This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

Maya Plugins

Hey there!
I'm Zombra
I'm new to this site and I'm new to Maya. I'm learning very fast though.
In a few days I've learned a lot from Modelling to Rendering an animation with skeletons and everything. It's chill!

well, I have a question!

I recently got myself Mental Ray for Maya which is a Rendering Plug in.
I installed it and I don't know how to activate it.
In fact, I don't know how to active any plug in. user added image

How do I run plug ins in Maya? Specially, Mental Ray!

Thankx for any help!

Hi Zombra,

to load plugins, do the following...

go to "Window"... --> "Settings/Preferences"... --> "Plug-in Manager"... and select the ones you want to load... user added image

To use the mental ray plug in;

Press h + MMB klick (I think) to open up a temporary default marking menu, and select "rendering".

Then look under "rendering" and select "use renderer", and select mental ray, as opposed to maya renderer.

To access the FinalGather+GlobalIllumination+Caustics menus in mental ray, look in the render global, more specificly at the "Quality" setting, and change this to, say "preview final gather" , or "production" to get some "better" default settings.

Menal ray is also used for usual raytracing (not sure what the difference is, but I assume there are)

The two different render globals can also be accessed from the "renderview" window.
