Career/Education Options

Like many of you here, I’m going for a career in 3D, but I want to widen my career choices. Something I’m very interested in is film. Stuff like directing, producing, writing, special effects…etc. I am gonna take my degree in animation here in the UK, but was thinking of moving to southern California to after and studying stuff like what I just mentioned and to maybe some freelance work. Well, has anyone here studied film, and what’s the best university for this subject in southern ca. Or would this be taking on too much - would it be worth it?

Yeah, but no but yeah but no....

its worth considering a move out to sth cal. but make sure right now that ur focused on the job in hand i.e. chasing ur degree. Maybe itd also be worthwhile to see if u can get some unpaid work experience when u can. It all helps...hmmm I should take my own advice lol.

Never say never as far as doing anything is concerned. Anyway u may have a change of heart a few years down the line. Good luck with whatever u decide anyway. There is a long road ahead user added image

The degree i'm chasing [like most] has a 3rd year intership thing, and i have ILM & Pixar in my sights [and you get paid user added image]

I'm still not totally sure if my future move to the LA area is on....just an idea at the moment. One reason for this idea is not everyone makes it to the big time in 3D, and even if you do, it's alot of hours, so i'll like to have a back up career i'm very picky

I plan on going to a tech firm in BC (BC is one of the best places for 3D.. all the companies are here). I hope to take 3 levels in each game production and design. On top of that, i also want to take programming for gaming and maya. If all goes well, i would like to be working at EA or another gaming company around vancouver.
(the school is at www.artschool.com)

I have also already taken a course on maya at Vancouver Film School (great school). Through my school, i am going to be going for "career prep" in my grade 12 year (next year). They said they may be able to get me into radical entertainment, or even Electronic Arts (my socials teacher worked on AI for NBA Live). If i am really lucky, they would hire me and pay for all my schooling. One student (couple years back) did the same thing i am trying to do, and he was hired by mainframe entertainment, and they paid for all of his schooling... that would save me a lot of money, as well as having a job secured for me : )

So what do you guys think? am i dreaming, or could this really happen?
