This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.
I don't know what type of geometry you have there, but if it's nurbs, simply go to the Rendering menu's, click on paint Effects, then make paintable. But I would follow the tutorial I linked. It's really the best way to do hair, IMO. You just have to play with it forever to get it to look right! LOL
