Are you talking about the colors and the puffy clouds?

..or are you talking about the rays of light coming through the clouds?

Just wonderinguser added image

thanks,olivermagno,but I can't import the shader,maya say:

sorry thought you are already using 4.5, but you could try this ascii file, if it did not work, download the shader at www.highend3d.com.

Check out www.rustboy.com , and in his "making of" section, he goes over how he created his puffy cloud shots using a compositing technique called multiplaning.

Using multiple layers of cloud imagery, with lots of transparency, you can achive great clouds with minimal fuss, and fast render times.

Here is his movie about his clouds: https://www.rustboy.tv/movies/cloudlayers.htm

The best part, is if you want to create the "god ray" effect with this technique, all you need to do is check the docs under light fog, and if you place your fog-light above and behind your cloud-planes, just turn on raytracing, and crank the rays (ray limit I think) to 3 or more, you should get some decent results.

Most rays like that are done in post anywayuser added image

Good luck!

thanks.
the rustboy's web page,I already know it cause you told others few weeks ago. That is a good website...It really widen my view.
you mean I must make the clouds myself...I am so lazy that wanna find some software to make the clouds....
but I will listen to you,use my brains tonight.....
The multiple layers is a good way to do that.

magno,maya4 still refuse the shader .....
I hope I could get the maya5 to see the shader soon....

Btw:rage, what's the meaning of the chinese words in your picture?

Hey Rage...where can I get the entire RustBoy film? I love the site. Very abstract like Nightmare Before Christmas.

more than likely, for a sky like that, your best bet would be to actually paint a sky to your liking and use it as your background.

I agree with Mike.

Most of the time, unless the shot calls for flying through it, doing bg plates separatly of clouds, god-ray efects, distant smoke plumes, birds, etc. are the way to go using 2d applications, to paint, and animate as a separate plate to combine, and color-grade with your shotsuser added image

I have a HUGE bg plate of a sky in the download section if you want to use it as a layer to customize your own sky to test with.

Just fyi, our download section is growing a LOT, so take a look, and grab all the free stuff that you can!

thx.man.

my way:
1.in componse software, divide the sky into few layers.
2.make some clouds moving animation
3.in componse software, put the different clouds moving animation into the different sky layer.

hehe... the multiple layers of cloud imagery method.
I think this will work,I will try it after my final test...
