I know this is silly, but...

How do I make it so that the wireframe (green lines) are still visible when I have shaded mode on. I noticed on tutorials it is this way, though when I switch to shaded mode on nurbs or polys, I loose the wireframe which makes it more difficult to tell when an item is selected.

I'm sure this is a simple preference selection, but I couldn't figure it out. Thanks in advance for any help!

You mean your objects doesn't show the wires when you select it? This might be because of the color you have set for selected objects. You can change this in Window>Preferences>Colors. (could be something else, not sure)

Another thing you might want is Shading>Shade Options>Wireframe on Shaded.

you might need to go to the Shading menu in your panel view and choose Shade Options > Wireframe on Shaded
