marking menus for translation axis

the marking menus for translation axis donĀ“t appear

by holding down the specific hotkeys for transformation(w,e,r) and pressing the lmb, there only appear the toolsetting- dialog instead of the choices for the translation-axis.

what is my fault?

Hmm. This is interesting. I get them. Are you all sure you.....

1) don't have CAPS LOCK on?
2) are holding down the hotkeys?
3) are using the LEFT mouse button and not the right?

If you still can't get it, I think it may be a preference problem or something else.

What version of Maya are you using? I know that with version 4.5 and later, the transform marking menus only offer tool options and no axis selections. Selecting specific axes via marking menus is actually unnecessary. Simplest method is to just click on the axis and middle-mouse drag to lock on that axis. Another method is to shift-middle-mouse drag along a particular axis to constrain movement.

Ahhhhhh...that's why!! Danny you rule!

I was trying to figure this out for him in 4.5 and got the same results. I KNEW i had gotten the translate axis marking menus before but now realize it must've been when I was using 4.0.

I even looked in the help docs and it gave the same directions for both menus....looked at the hotkey editor to see what marking menu each hotkey was associated with.....thought I was going nuts for awhile.

Hi Guys,

thanks a lot for replying. The restricted movements works like Dannyngan describes.
