Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Bloody animation :p

Yup, here's an artist's vision (lol) of blood cells flowing in a vein. Well a WIP playblast anyway... C&C please.

Nice flowing motion

- these little objects... they are supposed to be blood cells? I don't know a thing about blood cells but I had imagined them to be somewhat more complex structures. And maybe more of them... but you probably did your research and know what they're supposed to look like.

It's hard to get a feel for the walls because they're all grey and one texture.

Nice heart beating in the walls of the vein - hadn't noticed at first

Really interesting start but some more details to the objects to show what they are and give a sort of feel for being fleshy or liquid or organic etc.

Check out the subsurfacescattering on my tongue...

Thanks for the input. Actually I have no clue what a blood cell looks like. Never seen one :p. It wouldn't be too hard to change the look of them but I don't want to make it too heavy to render. If you have any real life reference I'd be appreciated.

Here's a test render:

You could first desaturate a bit that red K.

Second they´re supposedly only visible on microscope, so my best guess would be to try an electron miscroscope look.
(You know, that velvety look). I found thi simage in the lightwave tutorials center .. and I trully believe they could work with your animation.

Remember to add some heavy DOF too. Microscopes focus on really small units.

Hope this helps buddy.
Animation looks very good!

How did animate the cells? It has a nice flow as ereitz said. are they expression driven, or keyed?
And with those great tips from adl, it'll be amazing.

Thanks guys and cheers adl. I'll try to improve the look tonite when I get home.

Blinn:
Basically I
- created one cell
- turned it into a soft-body
- created a curve flow effect
- used this technique to replace the curve flow particles with duplicates of the cell: https://forum.simplymaya.com/showthre...&threadid=6495

Each cell has an expression which rotates it randomly. The camera animation is done with motion paths.

If you're wondering why do they all look the same shape it's because the soft-body stuff is turned off to speed up things at this point...

Thanks.

Here's a moving version (the soft-body stuff is still off). Did some minor color balancing in AE. C&C please...

(I think the look of the cells are ok but I don't like the look of the vein walls. It's too pink or something...)
