This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

first guess would be tesselation. but the other end of the stick looks ok, so it is probably not that. can you convert it to polys - just to see if the poly stick would render fine - if it would it seams to be an interesting problem.
