yes it is possible to reencode in differant file type. but no need to re-render, fcheck is enough for this kind of change. just open the animation, and save animation as - and if you save as e.g. tiff or targa (whatever your compositing software supports) then it converts the images - only that it cannot save as avi. but the avi "encode" of maya is not meant for playback as it is NOT compressed.Originally posted by Darkware

Targas are solid, but iff files are so much smaller. We're talking over 1 MB per image some times. That can add up fast.
