Environment fog

Hi,

I'm looking for some help with environment fog. I've followed the docs on how to set it up, but I can't get any good results. I'm using the Water type of Physical fog. I set the near and far distances, but the numbers don't seem to corrolate to anything.

Anyone?

I deleted your double-post in the newbie section, as you already had it posted here, and this is the right section for your questionuser added image

If you can give me some time, I'll check the file, and the docs for any reason why this might be happening for you.

I don't have Maya here at home, (getting a new machine in Oct.) but I do at work, so I can answer your question tommorrow if that is cool?

Thanks Rage, I'm completely stuck here.

Here's a new version of the file. Not much different though. I did figure out if I set the axis to -Y I can get an inverse fog, but that's for good to me.

Here is the file back to ya.

It is a folder with 2 Maya files.

One is for Maya 4.5 and the other is for Maya 5.0.

Sorry, I had 5, so my .ma 4.5 conversion might not work.
Just try to IMPORT it AS a Maya .MA, and it "should" work,
otherwise, use my settings above and lemme know how it goes.

Read the readme for file explanationsuser added image

PSS, Make sure your render globals render quality settingas are set to "Production" quality for best resultsuser added image

Good luck, and I'll talk to you tommorrow!

Thanks Rage. Did you just do trial and error, or was there a method to your madness.

Odd that you set a far plane of 5000 to get something only 175 units away to be in fog.

I'm doing a render tonight, and if I have time in the AM, I'll post a movie for you to see. I've added other stuff to the shot as well.

GREAT! yeah, there is no method to my clipping distance madnessuser added image hehe...

I just wanted to make sure that clipping wasn't the issue when I was, (and you are right to a point) just trying things out by trial and error.

Feel free to reset your clip distance to something a little more tolerableuser added image

Sometimes, that is the best way.

I also think I made it a preset as well, so as it can be a starting point for any other defailt environ fogs that I do, tho I'm not sure if I did or notuser added image hehe..

GOOD LUCK!

Can't wait to see it!
