This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

Head Model...A chic

This is my first post on simply maya (my friend Brian Ellebracht highly reccomends this site).

This is a polygonal head of a girl. The focus of this project was to get better with designing eyes\eye lids\eye sockets.

I'm also looking for comments on the model...if you have any.

Pretty good head overall, just a few suggestions on what to look at..

1) The eyes seem just abit to small for the overall size of her head.

2) The jaw line needs to be a bit more defined as it is right now it just blends right into the neck. Also they are just a bit to sunken in the front view. Remeber most women have soft lines in there face, unless they are a body builder with no body fat=)

3) The ears are to forward. Try moving them back and you will find the it will help a lot when you want to defind the chin.

Good stuff keep it up=)

Hey thanks for the suggestions, you are very correct. Also, thanks for taking the time to markup my image, that really does help convey what you said in your post.

I will make the changes tomorrow evening...I'm teaching an intro to Maya 5 course now (we're on a break)

Matt

You should do more study of the female form in general. I found that doing traditional sculpting classes have really helped me improve my 3d skills. I suggest subscribing to www.3d.sk for reference images.

here is a more detailed markup for you to look at. One needs to remember the lines of the face and that the upper lip (unless one has an underbite) is always out further than the lower lip.

good start by the way =)

OK, I had some time to make some revisions to my chic. The changes I made were subtle, however I tried to follow most suggestions.

The only part of this character that just terrorfies me is her hands. A womans hands are soooo beautiful, I only hope I can do them justice.

Here is question: Should I make the hands from SubD's (which I've done before for male based hands) or should I go with nurbs patches????

Also, I'm a member at 3d.sk.....very nice stuff for reference there.

you know i just realized the chin may not look so weird once you fix the lips so hold off on the chin for now =P

also after snapping and merging those verts, you may have to move the rest of her lips up with it a bit.

OK , I've followed some of 3dgurl's suggestions (all very accurate I might say). Here is a 3/4 view for you gurl, which gives you a better picture of the jaw line I think.

I will post a front and side soon.user added image
