PREFERENCES NOT SAVED?

I AM HAVING PROBLEMS SINCE UPGRADING FORM MAYA 4 TO 4.5, IT KEEPS LOOKING FOR THE MAYA 4 DIRECTORIES, AND SAYS Warning: Not all preferences were saved. See Script Editor for details. iN THE SCRIPT EDITOR IT SIMPLY SAYS, COULD NOT FIND....AND LISTS WHERE EVERYTHING IS MEANT TO BE... AND IS?? ANY IDEAS?

Sounds like a tech support issue.

try going into the my documents>maya>prefs folder and rename the prefs that are already there to 'prefs old' or something along that line. restart maya then select create new prefs when it asks you to.
