what is the best way in your opinion to make eye sockets???

I myself extruded the faces of the eyes in a tad and then deleated them before tweaking the vertisys a bit

but i was left with a strange shodow around the eyes is there a better way to do this?

or perhaps get rid of the shadow?

thank you for your insight.
