Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character
You've switched into Normal space for your Move tool. Hold down the "w" key, left-click to bring up the marking menu, and then select one of the other transform spaces (object, local, world).
