They are .obj converted from .lwo.

Thanks will give the import a try, i am still learning the interface and tying to figure out ways to do things I used to do in Lightwave...

Figured it out.

Select the model, right click, go to Faces, Highlight the Faces needed, Right click again and you have a choice of assigning materials.

Its a bit fiddly but it works.

I can go back in to Lightwave Modeller and create the surfaces but would rather do all in Maya. Must be a way to do this...
