Softmod works pretty well for Ti series and below. user added image

I just softmodded recently a ATI Radeon 9700Pro to a FireGL X1-128 with the latest FireGL Maya certified drivers, and it seems to work great with Maya indeed. An ATI 9800 could be softmodded to an FireGL X2. Browsing the forums it seems that there were somewhat more problems softmodding Nvidia's FX to Quadro.. So I would go with ATI on this, but this opinion is biased since I'm an ATI card owner user added image

Hey Buzzerman, do you play games with your 9700/FireGL? Do you have any problems with games? I heard that the FireGL drivers don't support DirectX9 well, so it can't be used for new games. The reason I ask is because I've been thinking of doing the same mod (with a 9800 pro), because I plan on using Maya to make a mod for new games like Doom 3 and HL2. Have you tried playing Far Cry with your card after it was modded? Because that game features a lot of DX9.

Thanks.
