Making a drop of blood

How do i make a stain and a dropp of blod on a meat hook?
I am making a pic for a little sick buddy of mine. if the question is kind a not understandeble just say so.

I would model the hook as well as the droplet of blood. Then use a texture map with a bump and specular map to create the stain of blood on the hook. The blood drop itself could use a Blinn shader with hard specularity and some reflectivity to get the right effect.

you may do it using different methods .. you can your texture and bumb maps for that .. but if you want to animate it then you can do it wiht pacrticles ...but it wont look as nice as if you actually model the drop of blood then use deformers with some keyframing
