having trouble importing new scanned artwork 2 hypershade

maya 5.0 will allow me to import old image already on my desk top but wont allow me to import new scanned jpegs illustrator any type of file to reference for modeling please help me if you can the error message reads warning unalbe to import file name and file path

What is the file name and path? Are you sure it's a jpeg and not an illustrator file? It cannot import illustrator files as an image.

try converting it to tiff first...it might be the compression that results in problem..

Also, you can't import AI as a background image..convert it to tiff or something simillar

If it IS a jpg, make sure it's not it's not saved as progressive.
