game artist guide problem

I got the game artist guide to maya and i am pysched to work through but i am encountering a problem. When i pull up the sword tuterial the gaph is only half shaded behind the picture. What's happening is i can add polygons to the bottom of the blade but not the top. I need to be able to trace the whole blade not just the bottom. What did i do wrong?

when using the create polygon too, to add additional dots in areas around an image plane, just hold left click and click drag the next point until you see where it needs to be.

i think this will solve the problem your having, if it doesn't then... lol
