Attaching Two Surfaces Together

Hi,

I have what should be a very simple problem, but I cannot work out how to do it.

Basically, if I create a sphere (NURBS) and intersect it through the middle with a vertical plane and trim out half of it.

I then duplicate it with a -1 scale factor for the x to produce the other half. Now, I wish to attach these two hemispheres together, but whenever I select both of them and click attach it doesn't do it. I have tried reversing the surface directions but to no avail.

Anybody have a solution?

Here is the file. I need these two hemispheres to be attached together into one surface. ( i know in this simple case this could be done by creating a sphere).

Note its Maya 7.

Thanks.
