originally i had a guy build it. It has changed a lot since then and due to $$$$$ I have had to learn how to build it up or down or sideways.

This guy was recommended to me but he knows nothing of the deepest darkest secrets of MIDI or 3D. I said I wanted a good sound card and so he stuck a low level sound blaster in it. stuff like that. The graphics card was a joke and on and on.., recently I added RAM and ROM and had learn to do it because I ran out of money buying the parts, ect. I took it to him and when he installed the ATI card he didn't let the computer find the AVG adaptors first and so i was going backward and forward to his house until i ran out of money. That's when I had to read up about it and did it my self. Since then I do it myself. No doubt one of the reasons i get so many blue screens. I dont even care about them anymore, if a driver is incompatible, well, I just live with it and so does this computer.
I have a laptop that is crystal clear, I had Maya on it but took it off. i use it with photo shop and a wacom tablet. I use it to write scripts and do uni stuff and office stuff on it. It was just released about a month ago so should be good for a couple of years. It has a lot of bells and whistles, finger print ID, wireless e-mail, ect.

My computer, jesus, good question;

sound card approx $ozzy 500
ATI 300 (on sale)
Basic tower, mother board ,keyboard, mouse and OS/? $2000
scanner ??$150
printer?? S200
MIDI interface $200
keybaords both yamahas , anaogue synth (vintage now) $2000
the other digital yamy keyboard??? about $600
The monitors, second hand each $100
extra HD and RAM ??? around $500
capture card I forget a pinnicle, ?? $100??
usb, firewire, ethernet stuff, ??$100???
sound mixer $600 (yamaha)
on and on

joystick, blah bla, depends what you call 'the computer'

where do you get 6.5 for $90

I don't know much but I do know this, if you are anything less than upper intermeddate or expert; the exra $6900 is definately not worth it. If you want the latest, wait to see what auto desk does with mya, that would be worth a wait and in the meantime, go for 6.5, I have it and it will keep you busy for years. just my opinion, others might feel differant.

I also have a laptop, but I took maya off that. I use it for other stuff.

my friend, you really are the tech type arn't you, good on you, I think it is a healthy approach, if I started pulling this thing apart the room would be full of wires, I would have to dissconnect and reconnect all sorts of things.is it really that important. I don't understand how computers work just how to fix mine and that's pretty dodgy because I taught myself.

I willl have a look one day though, when there's not so much to do around here, I'm scared I'll open it and it will say '100' or something and then I'll have to spend more money user added imageuser added image

what should i look for..., a numbera brand,..??
