Tree frog project problem

I am completely stuck with the eye section in the project.

I have got to the the stage where I need to extrude the edges around the eye socket to form the sharp edge. The extrude appears to perform well but when I convert to Sub D I get a hard edge (octagonal) instead of the nice smooth round one even when I show it in fine detail.

Any help would be much appreciated!
