extrude tool help

Hey guys

I'm new to Maya and I've run in2o an issue with the extude tool. I've selected a polygon face that I want to be extruded out, but after extruding it, I've noticed that the new vertices aren't wielded to the orignal polygon face and I happen 2 spend alot of tyme going back and merging the vertices------arggggghhhh

Has any1 come across this b4????

I'm thinking you don't have the 'Keep Faces Together' option turned on, but I could be wrong. If you click on 'Polygons' in the Modeling Menu set, then click on 'Tool Options', you will see an option for 'Keep Faces Together'. If there is no check by it, click it, and then try to extrude to see what happens. Hope this works for you.
