Edge selection

Hi does anyone know of a script, shortcut or a menu item etc. that will allow me to select all the edges or vertices in a row or column of an object in one go, instead of having to select them individually while holding down the shift key? Furthermore if it is possible to select two or more rows or columns?

Sometimes, depending on the way the geometry has been built, this is the only way that seems to work, unfortunately. In those cases, it can at times be quicker to drag a rough selection box around the desired edges, then holding the ctrl button, drag selection boxes around the unwanted edges to remove them from the selection, where practical, this is a nice quick way.

Other times there's a plugin that should do the trick for you. You can select in either rows or columns and as many as you like at a time. The picture below illustrates this in effect.

In each case a total of six mouse clicks were required to create the object, enter edge selection mode, select the starting edges, and select the menu option required for each effect.

You can find the (many different versions of the) plug-in here: MJPolyTools Download page
