Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Pail Handle?

Okay, this is probably a very simple answer to a noob question, but bear with me anyway!

I'm trying to figure out how to make a perfect pail handle. If I try to make a NURBS Curve to draw the path and then use NURBS Circle then extrude options to make the handle. However when I do the NURBS Curve, it's wonky. There's no way that I can draw a perfect "curve". There has to be a way to make it nice and realistic handle instead of all wonky like somebody smashed it up.

This actually has been bothering me for a couple months, until I had to do another project that requires me to do similar thing. My prof didn't care about the "perfect NURB curve", but it still bothers me even after classes is over. (Prof knows very very little about Maya, yet he's teaching it..long story!)

Are you using a linear curve?
Open the options box of the create cv curve tool and use 3 Cubic and the curve will be smooth if you just use 3 points to create it, then rebuild it if you need more cv's.

Create a CV curve, and trace a profile of the handle.

Then simple Revolve it on the correct axis.

I would post an image example, but my Maya machine is down.

Good luck!
