Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

mental ray aborting?

so i've been using mental ray a lil lately and set up global illum in a scene i built, it was working fine getting good renders. last night i was getting renders fine, saved my file and closed maya, this morning however i open the same file and right off the bat tried to render to refresh my eyes to the current progress, but to my shock mental ray keeps aborting the render and telling me to "see the log". i cannot for the life of me find this log or have any clue as to why it would have stopped working, i have tried reopening the file, rebooting my system and nothing seems to work and the maya help has not helped at all, any input would be greatly appreciated

that happened to me a while back and it turned out to a peice piece of dodgy geometry...

go through and hide each piece one by one and see if will render.
with me it would even start a render, would abort before the GI was calculated, so when it started i knew what it was.
its a little bit annoying but better than re-doing the whole thing

on the other hand it might be something totally different!
good luck!

Check the output window. this will tell you from time to time. Sometimes MR will stall on a texture too...

cheers
