Best way to set up a vacuum cleaner?

I need to animate a vacuum cleaner that follows a motion path on the floor. Now I was thinking about the best way to do it, maybe you can give some helpful tips before I start setting up the scene.

The cleaner consists of the head with the attached pipe, the hose and the cleaner itself. I want to animate the head with a motion path, the hose has to pull the cleaner in a realistic way with some dynamics. What do you think is the best way to make the cleaner follow the head and pipe, a joint setup or constraints?
