Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Extruding Curves along path always screws up!!!

hi there

this is my first post here so sorry if i ask such a noob question:

i want to extrude a windowprofile from a nurbs curve. it should go along a path (which is of course a rectangular), and so it does.
the problem is, it always screws up at the connention point, where start and end of the rectangular meet.
i closed both of the curves (profile and path) and tried every possibility in the extrude option box.
i'll attach a picture so you can see what i'm talking of.

i also tried putting the connection point of the rectangular on the line between two points. same result. for some reason the extruded tube never fits at the connection point.

please help me out

thanks a lot

Instead of trying to extrude all the way around the square you might want to consider using loft on each side.

1. Create a nurbs square
2. Create a profile curve and center its pivot
3. using curve snap place the profile at one of the corners at a 45 degree angle
4. then duplicate the profile placing the duplicates at the remaining 3 corners also at 45 degrees
5 then just loft each side
6. when you have all the sides lofted you can attach the four sides if you desire a single piece of geometry

step 1 and 2 and 3...

you can then attach the four sides.
